How to Let Your Core Desired Feelings Guide You

Are you one of those people who LIVES for the holidays? Like counts down the days?…

The problem is, for most of us, holidays and these ‘special events’ only make up a very small portion of our lives…what about the rest?!

What if you were able to insert those ‘good vibe yummy’ feelings into your EVERY day? Just take a moment to think about it…how would that impact your life?

Today we are going to share with you a system that we learnt some years ago (actually 6 years ago to be exact) and have been implementing ever since, and without exaggerating, it has transformed our lives!

This system is called ‘The Desire Map’ and is the ‘brainchild’ of one of our favourite people – Danielle LaPorte. Dani is an author/poet/entrepreneurial queen, who takes a very different perspective on goals.

She teaches how to create goals with soul, by figuring out what YOUR core desired feelings are.

Step 1.

Think about how you want to feel. Get specific. How did you feel when you got married, had a child, fell in love etc. Don’t hold back, the more detail the better. Think about what you look forward to, get excited about and then ask yourself why? Why do I love doing x,y,z? How does it make me feel?

Step 2.

Use ‘stream of consciousness’ writing to ‘brain dump’ how you want to feel in all 5 aspects of your life. Simply put pen to paper and write whatever comes into your mind. The five categories are: Work and Lifestyle, Body and Wellness, Creativity and Learning, Relationships and Society, Spirituality.

Step 3.

Highlight the words that keep on popping up in your stream of consciousness writing. These are clues to your core desired feelings.

Step 4.

Drill down your highlighted words. What is _____ really about for you? Use the thesaurus, dig deep and get creative to find that perfect word that lights you up! (We are talking about those goosebump tingles…you know what we mean!) Narrow it down to your 4 top words – remember that these are unique to you.

Step 5.

Make a list of all of the things that make you feel that way (for example: watching the sunset, buying fresh blueberries, dancing etc.)

Step 6.

Write down how you want each of the 5 aspects of your life to look and feel like. Dream big and be specific, make sure you focus on how you want to feel.

Step 7.

With your core desired feelings in mind, choose 3-5 actions/intentions that you would like to incorporate into your life for a period of time, that will make the most impact for you…then watch the magic happen! Make sure that you are specific and realistic.
